Happy Garden Hens - Chickens Breeder in Kent

Guide to Keeping Chickens

Keeping chickens can be as simple or as complicated as you want to make it, and every experienced keeper will have their own advice to give to beginners.  This basic guide is our way of introducing you to keeping chickens.  It is a good beginning to your research, and it should be read alongside much more comprehensive poultry husbandry books.  We also invite you to attend one of our Chicken Husbandry Courses.  These will fully prepare you for a lifetime of happy hen ownership!

We have kept and bred chickens for many years, and we’ve enjoyed every moment with our feathered friends!  Our approach to chicken care is straightforward.  We believe that chickens should live long, happy and healthy lives.  We also believe that you should be able to enjoy your flock enormously.  Over the years, we have helped many keepers achieve this happy balance.

We recommend that you read these guides in the order listed, so that you don’t miss important information.
